Bulwell Youth Lead the Way to Safer Streets
Funded by the Safer Streets 5 programme, coordinated through the Bulwell Cradle to Career initiative
the focus groups had a lot to say and they got to say it, and problems that they could be speak about, and we gave them that chance and I’m proud of that.
There’s a difference in the conversations we have when it comes to things like drug abuse and street crime.
A lot of people got to be heard
It just gives me the pride to say, ok, fine, if he’s got these ears and eyes to see what’s happening within the community, then probably the future is good for him.
Between September 2024 and March 2025, twelve students from Bulwell Academy took part in a groundbreaking initiative to make their community safer. Working alongside Nottinghamshire Police, local partners, and Nottingham Trent University, the project empowered young people to shape policy and practice through their lived experiences.
Funded by the Safer Streets 5 programme from the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, and coordinated through the Bulwell Cradle to Career Initiative, the students were trained in social research methods. They designed and conducted their own research to explore the root causes of crime and antisocial behaviour in Bulwell.
