Every street, every building, every person has a story to tell. Pots, Pits & People is dedicated to preserving and sharing Bulwell’s unique heritage for generations to come.
The OVP team are developing a Heritage Lottery Fund application in 2025 to deliver a range of inspiring projects celebrating local history. Centuries of Craftsmanship
In this historical snapshot from Bulwell, local people skillfully shape clay into pots at Sankey’s factory. We have a tradition of creativity within our community! Do you have a Sankey’s pot in your garden, or memories of the old factory before the fire that destroyed the building?

Brainstorming
Prior to Covid lockdowns, we launched the Pots, Pits and People programme to gather community interest in areas of local history that people want to explore! With questionnaires and local market stall events, we gathered 100s of people’s views!
Our next steps
Project Workflow
We are currently designing ideas and activities to incorporate within a new Heritage Lottery application, building on local themes from Anglo-Saxon times to the Victorian era!

We’re excited to build collaborative ways of working with a whole range of community groups and organisations to bring history and heritage to life, making learning fun for Bulwell’s children and young people; and working together to engage all ages!
