Nottingham City Council Regeneration Scheme

The Regeneration Scheme

Nottingham City Council won a bid for £20m through the Levelling Up Fund, putting a £20m vote of confidence into Bulwell.

The plans cover much needed changes and upgrades to the marketplace and Bogs areas – adding power to market stalls and replacing the Splash Park before it reaches the end of its life.

For more information on the scheme itself, take a look at the NCC’s page on it here.

OVP Involvement

Our Trustee for Place Shaping has been busy working with various council teams to find even more ways for Bulwell residents and businesses to benefit from the scheme.

Our next steps

Opportunities

So far, we’ve identified several opportunities for the community to make more of the scheme.

Making the most of the Market Sustaining and Growing the Existing Market Market as a Community Space With the upgrades being made to the market, we get new opportunities for events. Electric hookups mean food stalls can keep foods heated and cook through the day, and lights can be powered in the evenings and nights for even more community events! New stalls with electric hookups means our market will be able to not only keep going, but will be able to have more stalls with even more offers. Public Art Using the scheme as an opportunity for public art, OVP is working with the council to build a brief that decorates our town with our best aspects. From our heritage to our diversity, we want to show off the best of Bulwell wherever we can. Careers and Employability Wilmot Dixon, the contractors for the regeneration, are preparing to show kids from the Bulwell Academy the different roles of work involved in making a scheme like this happen, both on and off the work sites. From designers to constructors to project managers and site safety, they’ll be showcasing all the different work options that make regeneration projects like this possible. Wilmot Dixon are also looking to do some CV writing and workplace preparation workshops in Bulwell. Support for Local Activities We are looking to gain support for all sorts of local activities and organisations, like support for the Bulwell Arts Festival or our friends at Bulwell Forest Garden.
